About Me

Songs are like presents. I love opening presents!

Matt Coakley is an artist, composer, and producer based in Philadelphia.

Matt grew up in the suburbs of Philly, where he nurtured his love for music by playing piano and guitar and writing songs. He has over 20 years of piano/theory experience and 15 years on guitar, percussion, singing, and songwriting.

Matt graduated from Drexel University in 2019 with a degree (B.S.) in recording arts, which not only launched him into the Chicago music scene but also left him with an unhealthy obsession with microphones. In Chicago, Matt worked at a recording studio and taught music lessons at a private school. Since moving back to Philadelphia, Matt has continued teaching private lessons, performing, recording, and composing.

In 2023, Matt started releasing music as a solo artist, writing, performing, recording, and mixing everything himself. So far, he has released a few singles and EPs, and a full debut album is slated for 2026.

Matt teamed up with New York-based playwright Franco Giacomarra to write and produce “Planet W: A Sci-Fi Musical”, which had its world premiere at Ars Nova’s ANT Fest 2024 in NYC, along with a full cast album. “Planet W” went on to be a finalist for the 2025 O’Neill Musical Theatre Conference. Matt has also performed and recorded with many bands and artists over the years, including The Laughing Hearts, Drift, Man After Man, The Philadelphia Spice, Arya Taba, and Avenue Eight.
